Danish freight forwarder Scan Global Logistics (SGL) is set to undertake its largest takeover, agreeing to acquire its US counterpart, OIA Global, in a deal expected to propel SGL into the ranks of the world’s 20 largest freight forwarders.

“The acquisition of OIA Global marks a significant milestone for Scan Global Logistics. As our largest investment to date, it will place us among the world’s top 20 freight forwarders, strengthen our position in key markets, and expand our capabilities across the supply chain,” said CEO Allan Melgaard.

“Together with OIA Global’s talented people and experienced leadership team, we will create a stronger, more resilient platform for future growth,” he added.

While the purchase price was undisclosed, SGL has spent much of the past month raising funds, and on 22 October successfully issued a €300m bond, which it said would be partly used to finance its next acquisition.

Meanwhile, Лодстар also understands that SGL’s shareholders, led by private equity firm CVC Capital Partners, have injected a further €111m to help fund the deal.

According to SGL, OIA Global posted revenues of $780m in 2025, and employs around 1,200 staff across 60 offices.

В соответствии с Лодстар sources in the M&A field, OIA Global has been on the market for some time – the US family-owned fund Lacy Diversified Industries (LDI) seeking an exit.

LDI acquired OIA in 2010 and since has completed five acquisitions to expand OIA’s geographic and vertical scope – the first of which was the purchase of UK forwarder Belville Rodair in 2013, which gave it its first presence in Europe.

“What stood out to us about Scan Global Logistics was not only the scale of the organisation, but also the way it does business,” said OIA Global CEO Jeffery Barrie. “Both companies are built on strong customer relationships, entrepreneurial thinking, and empowered local teams.

“These shared values provide a strong foundation for the future and make SGL the right partner for OIA Global,” he added.

SGL added: “OIA has developed a diversified business model that extends beyond traditional freight forwarding. Its established capabilities in supply chain management, customs brokerage, project logistics, and packaging solutions will complement SGL’s expertise and broaden the combined company’s ability to support customers across increasingly complex global supply chains.”

The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of next year.
