‘Data centers are the new ports’ – and APEC finance ministers want to fund them

Later this month, finance ministers from APEC’s 21 member economies meet in Hong Kong, the first time the city has hosted the gathering.

On their table is a digital infrastructure financing initiative, prepared with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), aimed at funding gaps in broadband, cloud computing and data centers. It will be presented as development policy.

Shippers, forwarders and port operators should read it as trade policy, because data centers now behave like ports: they concentrate cargo, …
