Refined Cotton for Nitrocellulose
1. Product Definition and Core Characteristics
Definition: High-purity refined cotton is produced from premium Class Ⅱ/Ⅲ cotton linters via multiple processing procedures. It is specially developed for the manufacturing of nitrocellulose (NC), with model designation prefixed by X (X15, X30, etc.).
Characteristics: White flocculent form, impurity-free and odorless; α-cellulose ≥ 98.5%, ultra-low ash content, and stable nitration reaction performance.
2. Core Technical Indicators (Typical Grades)
X15: Viscosity 10–20 mPa·s, α-cellulose ≥ 98.5%, Moisture ≤ 8.0%, Ash content ≤ 0.10%, Sulfuric acid insoluble matter ≤ 0.10%
X30: Viscosity 21–40 mPa·s, α-cellulose ≥ 98.8%; other indicators same as X15
X60: Viscosity 41–70 mPa·s, α-cellulose ≥ 98.8%, Ash content ≤ 0.12%, Sulfuric acid insoluble matter ≤ 0.15%, Moisture ≤ 8.0%
X100: Viscosity 71–120 mPa·s, α-cellulose ≥ 99.0%; other indicators same as X60
X200: Viscosity 121–300 mPa·s, α-cellulose ≥ 99.0%; other indicators same as X60
Supplementary indicators:Ether extract ≤ 0.15%, Copper number ≤ 0.20, neutral pH, no fluorescent substances.
3. Key Production Process
Raw material screening → Alkaline cooking and bleaching → Low-temperature drying → Baling.Key quality control covers viscosity, α-cellulose and other core indicators.
4. Main Applications
Military industry: High-nitrogen nitrocellulose for smokeless gunpowder and propellants.
Civil use: Low/medium-nitrogen nitrocellulose for inks, coatings and other products.
Other fields: Photographic film, metal anticorrosion and related industries.
5. Storage, Transportation & Safety
Store in cool and dry place, keep away from fire sources;
Transported as flammable solid;Operation requires protective equipment, good ventilation and anti-static measures.
6. Executive Standard & Model Selection
Executive Standard: GB/T 9107-2023
Military application: X100 / X200
Civil application: X15 / X30 / X60Select model by matching viscosity with production process requirements.
