{"id":2899,"date":"2026-06-04T18:44:34","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T15:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mikhailinvest.com\/us-rejects-eu-objections-to-proposed-forced-labour-tariffs-on-imports\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T18:44:34","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T15:44:34","slug":"us-rejects-eu-objections-to-proposed-forced-labour-tariffs-on-imports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mikhailinvest.com\/zh\/us-rejects-eu-objections-to-proposed-forced-labour-tariffs-on-imports\/","title":{"rendered":"\u7f8e\u56fd\u9a73\u56de\u6b27\u76df\u5bf9\u62df\u8bae\u7684\u8fdb\u53e3\u5546\u54c1\u5f3a\u5236\u52b3\u52a8\u5173\u7a0e\u7684\u53cd\u5bf9\u610f\u89c1\u3002"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"hero\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theloadstar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/131e5acfad07baa7ccac476cef484939-680x0-c-default.jpg\" alt=\"Trump tariffs\" \/>\n<p>ID 374555045<br \/>\n\u00a9 Zimmytws<br \/>\n| Dreamstime.com<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<time datetime=\"2026-06-04\">04\/06\/2026<\/time><\/p>\n<p>US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer has pushed back on EU criticism that proposed US tariffs of 10% on the bloc, over failures to stamp out the use of forced labour in supply chains, conflict with an agreement struck between the pair last year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/theloadstar.com\/us-plans-new-tariffs-for-eu-uk-and-others-for-lack-of-action-on-forced-labour\/\">As reported by <em>\u8f7d\u661f<\/em>, the EU and 59 countries are facing a new, additional tariff rate of 10-12.5%<\/a> on all goods for either failing to introduce or failing to properly impose legislation prohibiting trade in goods that have benefited from forced labour.<\/p>\n<p>Announced yesterday, the new tariff rate sparked outcry from across Europe, with an EU spokesperson describing them as unjustified, and chair of the European Parliament\u2019s Committee on International Trade Bernd Lange labelling them \u201cutterly absurd\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to the criticism, Mr Greer said that the deal between the EU and US, known as the \u201cTurnberry Agreement\u201d included the bloc\u2019s recognition that the US \u201ccan impose tariffs up to a certain level,\u201d adding \u201cwe understand that a deal is a deal\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to make sure we\u2019re able to resolve trading practices identified as problematic in our investigations and we are going to take into account the Turnberry deal, of course, because we believe the Turnberry deal addresses a lot of these issues,\u201d Mr Greer said.<\/p>\n<p>The looming tariff follows a USTR investigation, which determined that Australia and the UK will be subjected to 12.5% rate after failing to push through laws to address forced labour practices, joining 52 other countries, including China, Japan, and India.<\/p>\n<p>Canada, Ecuador, the European Union, Indonesia, Mexico, and Pakistan have all been flagged as introducing but failing to properly enforce legislation resulting in the \u201cunlevel playing field\u201d that the US action is pushing back against.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe failure of our most important trading partners to address the import of goods made with forced labour\u2026 creates a dynamic where American workers are forced to compete globally on an unlevel playing field,\u201d Mr Greer noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will no longer tolerate it.\u00a0 Some trading partners have taken initial steps to prevent the import of forced labour goods.\u00a0 However, each of our trading partners must do more to ensure trade does not perversely encourage and entrench forced labour globally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ID 374555045 \u00a9 Zimmytws | Dreamstime.com 04\/06\/2026 US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer has pushed back on EU criticism that proposed US tariffs of 10% on the bloc, over failures to stamp out the use of forced labour in supply chains, conflict with an agreement struck between the pair last year.
