{"id":7117,"date":"2026-10-19T14:40:13","date_gmt":"2026-10-19T11:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mikhailinvest.com\/new-report-reveals-hidden-extra-costs-of-cargo-crime\/"},"modified":"2026-10-19T14:40:13","modified_gmt":"2026-10-19T11:40:13","slug":"new-report-reveals-hidden-extra-costs-of-cargo-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mikhailinvest.com\/ru\/new-report-reveals-hidden-extra-costs-of-cargo-crime\/","title":{"rendered":"New report reveals hidden extra costs of cargo crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"hero\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theloadstar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/91dea493cdd4a230d4d9611aaa1f7f28-680x0-c-default.jpg\" alt=\"\u041a\u0440\u0430\u0436\u0430 \u0433\u0440\u0443\u0437\u0430\" \/><\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<time datetime=\"2026-10-19\">19 October 2026<\/time><\/p>\n<p>Cargo theft is costing businesses far more than the value of the stolen freight; loss of a single \u20ac5,000 parcel can potentially generate \u20ac35,000 in additional costs, as organised gangs and cybercriminals exploit vulnerabilities in Europe\u2019s supply chains.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>LivingPackets\u2019 <i>Hidden Cost of High-Value Delivery<\/i> report, published today, estimates that every euro of direct loss carries four to seven euros in additional costs, including replacement, reshipping, dispute handling, and customer dissatisfaction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Across 10,000 shipments of goods worth \u20ac5,000 each, a 0.1% incident rate would mean 10 losses, representing \u20ac50,000 in stolen goods, and up to \u20ac350,000 in hidden costs, the analysis, drawing on Logistics Bureau research, found.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, TAPA EMEA recorded more than \u20ac1bn in freight theft losses across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa in the 18 months to 30 June. Only 7.8% of the 58,661 reported incidents included a recorded loss value, suggesting the documented total significantly understates the problem.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe problem is not marginal,\u201d said LivingPackets.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with SNAP, TAPA\u2019s\u00a0UK lead for EMEA Harry Hughes said:\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019ve seen organised crime groups travelling two to three hundred miles to target specific vehicles. They know the routes. They know the transport companies that are moving them, the lanes they go on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cargo theft methods include curtain slashing, entire loaded trailers taken from depots, and cyber-enabled fraud involving phishing emails, falsified collection documents, and manipulated delivery instructions. <\/p>\n<p>Mr Hughes also warned:\u00a0\u201cCriminals are sometimes buying legimate carriers, trading as a legitimate carrier for two to three weeks and then disappearing with loads.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LivingPackets argued that while conventional tracking could record where a parcel was scanned, it cannot necessarily establish what happened between scans, or identify where custody was compromised. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, its technology embeds sensing, authentication, and event recording into reusable shipping boxes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>LivingPackets founder and executive chairman Alexander Cotte said: \u201cIf the shipment itself can tell us what happened, brands, carriers and insurers start from the same facts.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company said French telecoms operator SFR had seen loss and damage claims fall by 93% on the flows concerned, while a luxury jeweller recorded no losses on LivingPackets-managed shipments. Automotive parts shipper Cotrolia reportedly reduced its breakage rate from 30% to 1%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The report advised the need for stronger carrier verification, secure parking, tighter control of collection instructions, and better shipment visibility as criminals exploit both physical and digital weaknesses across freight networks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>SNAP\u2019s head of commercial for the UK and Ireland, Nick Long, urged that secure truck parking should be integral to fleet security and journey planning, rather than treated as an optional
