{"id":6559,"date":"2026-09-30T15:11:01","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T12:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mikhailinvest.com\/hapag-lloyds-zim-takeover-hopes-dealt-fresh-blow-as-review-halted\/"},"modified":"2026-09-30T15:11:01","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T12:11:01","slug":"hapag-lloyds-zim-takeover-hopes-dealt-fresh-blow-as-review-halted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mikhailinvest.com\/ru\/hapag-lloyds-zim-takeover-hopes-dealt-fresh-blow-as-review-halted\/","title":{"rendered":"Hapag-Lloyd\u2019s Zim takeover hopes dealt fresh blow as review halted"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"hero\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theloadstar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/f0644d9d660c0cd45f7d3c9c4c014bab-680x0-c-default.jpg\" alt=\"\u0417\u0418\u041c\" \/>\n<p>Source Zim<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<time datetime=\"2026-09-30\">30 September 2026<\/time><\/p>\n<p>Hapag-Lloyd\u2019s hopes of acquiring Zim appear to be lying in tatters after regulators reportedly terminated a review of the deal, declaring the proposed framework no longer valid, effectively throwing the process back to the starting line.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s Government Companies Authority (GCA) ended a review of the acquisition proposal structure last night, per <em>CalcalisTech<\/em>, telling all involved parties that any resubmission would mean the review process beginning from the start.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps most worrying for Hapag-Lloyd\u2019s hopes of landing its target, is the Israeli regulator confirming that it would not accept any resubmission proposal until it had been approved by the three relevant parties, Zim, Israeli financial institution FIMI, and the German carrier.<\/p>\n<p>Having abandoned its original proposals after sustained Israeli political pushback, Hapag-Lloyd planned to submit was described as a \u201csubstantially revised deal\u201d structure, and with the present structure obsolete the GCA was left with no choice but to end its review.<\/p>\n<p>The move by the GCA, which represents the state\u2019s \u201cGolden Share\u201d in Zim, does not mean that it opposes the deal on merits, but by pushing it back to the start line and requiring the relevant boards to approve any resubmission it has created a new hurdle.<\/p>\n<p>This is because Zim was informed any resubmission would need to be made by 6 October, essentially giving Hapag-Lloyd\u2019s board a week to ratify any new proposal put forward or resubmit the original proposal, which has been blocked by the Israeli government.<\/p>\n<p>Should the parties fail to hit the 6 October deadline, the entire review process by all relevant government departments would begin again from scratch, threatening the February 2027 deadline required to close the deal, with the process having so far taken six months.<\/p>\n<p>Requests for comment made by <em>\u041b\u043e\u0434\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0440 <\/em>to Hapag-Lloyd, the Israeli government, and Zim have so far fallen on deaf ears, but <em>\u041b\u043e\u0434\u0441\u0442\u0430\u0440 <\/em>understands that the buying parties and Zim remain keen to get the deal over the line.<\/p>\n<p>However, questions are now being raised over how long the German carrier is willing to go, and at what point it would decide to walk away from any planned acquisition given the strong opposition that has built up within the Knesset.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source Zim 30 September 2026 Hapag-Lloyd\u2019s hopes of acquiring Zim appear to be lying in tatters after regulators reportedly terminated a review of the deal, declaring the proposed framework no longer valid, effectively throwing the process back to the starting line.
